Windows has released a new build for Windows Insiders, the latest iteration of its upcoming operating system. The build includes fixes for slow file explorer performance and many other issues to improve stability and speed up the OS.
The “windows 11 file explorer slow” is a problem that has been present for a while. Microsoft has released the latest Windows Insider Build, which includes fixes for this issue and many more.

One of the most common complaints Windows 11 users (or beta testers, as some critics have dubbed them) have had is slow performance in the new File Explorer, which has a cleaner interface and design thanks to the Windows UI Library (WinUI), but is slower and laggier to navigate than its Windows 10 counterpart.
According to the changelog for the current edition of Windows 11, which was published last week, this problem has been resolved to some extent, with a bullet point indicating increased efficiency when browsing and choosing files in the new File Explorer. There are a slew of additional improvements in Windows 11 Build 22000.466, including picture editors that don’t show colors accurately on HDR monitors and VPN profiles that vanish.
According to Microsoft, some of the significant enhancements include:
- On ARM64 devices, we increased the dependability of application installs.
- When ARM64 devices sleep or restart from hibernation, they cease responding. We addressed this problem.
- We solved a problem that caused certain image editing tools to fail to reproduce colors properly on some high dynamic range (HDR) televisions. This often affects white hues, causing them to seem bright yellow or other colors.
- On certain devices that enable hardware-accelerated Bluetooth audio, we solved an issue that caused the audio service to cease responding.
- We solved an issue with app icons that occurred while the applications were not operating. These icons on the taskbar may seem to be alive, as though the programs are operating.
- We solved a problem that might have caused VPN profiles to vanish. When you utilize Microsoft Intune or a third-party mobile device management (MDM) application to install VPN profiles on Windows 11, you’ll run into this problem (original release).
- File Explorer’s speed while browsing for files and selecting files has been improved.
- We solved an issue where the volume icon in the taskbar was mistakenly shown as muted.
- We solved a problem with File Explorer and the desktop context menus that caused them to stop operating.
- We corrected a bug that affected the taskbar’s auto-hide function. When you hover over the main or secondary display, the taskbar may or may not show.
- We solved an issue that prevented icons from displaying on a secondary display’s taskbar.
Windows 11 Build 22000.466 is currently available via the Windows Insider program’s Beta and Release Preview Channels. By enrolling their Microsoft account and consenting to Microsoft’s terms and conditions, users may join the program to try out the newest Windows features and improvements.
