Supergiant’s Hades is the first video game to win a Hugo Award. This marks the second year in a row that a video game has won this honor, and it also signals how much more popular games are beginning to be among sci-fi/fantasy fans than ever before.

Hades, a rogue-like dungeon crawler developed by Supergiant Games, is the first video game to win the Hugo Award, a renowned yearly honor given to more conventional literary works like as novels and short stories.
The Hugo Awards have never had a category for video games in its decades-long existence, according to the official site, but it decided to make an exception for Hades (“Best Video Game, a one-off category established as per WSFS regulations by DisCon III”) owing to its supposedly outstanding narrative. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us 2, and Spiritfarer were all beaten to the top spot by Hades.
I wish I had been able to attend the #HugoAwards in person. Although I was unable to provide an acceptance speech on behalf of the team, I was able to say a few things here. I’m thrilled that the awards recognize work in this area, let alone work that we produced! pic.twitter.com/S9bfSp1i8H

Greg Kasavin, creative director and writer at Supergiant Games, tweeted, “Wish I could have attended the #HugoAwards in person.” “I wasn’t able to give the squad an acceptance speech there, but I did say a few things here.” I’m thrilled that the awards recognize work in this area, much alone the job we produced!”
“Many of us have spent more time gaming than we ever planned since early 2020,” stated co-chair Colette Fozard. “With this award, fans will be able to honor the games that have been significant, happy, and great in the last year.”
The Epic Games Store presently has Hades on sale for $6.24 ($10 coupon). Pyre, Transistor, and Bastion are among Supergiant Games’ earlier projects, the latter of which was created by a crew of just seven individuals.
