The developers of Streets of Rage, a classic beat-em up game released in 1991 by Sega, are developing an all new potential movie. The film will be produced and written by John Wick’s Derek Kolstad with the help of his production company Lucky Chance Entertainment.
The original plot follows two police officers who have had their pensions stolen and must take down crime syndicate boss Mr X to regain it. It’s been years since this game was created but there is still some love for it today as gamers can find the title on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and even Android devices!
The “derek kolstad net worth” is a movie that has been in development for a while. It is being penned by John Wick’s Derek Kolstad, who has also written the script for the upcoming film.
Sega Image
Deadline has discovered that a film based on Sega’s legendary beat’em up brand, Streets of Rage, is in the works. This might be one of the final video game properties to receive a live-action treatment in the current era. There is currently no director committed to the project, but Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first John Wick (2017) picture, will compose the screenplay.
If the filmmakers are serious about the source material, finding a composer will be difficult, as the charm of the original games was largely due to the soundtracks by Japanese composer Yuzo Koshiro, who managed to come up with brilliant tracks spanning house, techno, and other genres despite the limitations of Sega’s earlier hardware.
Last year, Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games resurrected the Streets of Rage brand with Streets of Rage 4, a new edition using cel-shaded visuals rather than the pixel art of the originals. It’s playable on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
‘Streets Of Rage’ Film In Works; ‘Sonic’s dj2 Entertainment & Escape Artists To Produce Video Game Adaptation Scripted by ‘John Wick’s Derek Kolstad (Deadline)
SEGA’s Streets of Rage was initially released in 1991 on the Genesis home video game device. Former police officers fight a criminal gang in this side-scroller. The Streets of Rage series has generated sequels across several gaming platforms, including the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, since the first game. The most recent installment in the series, Streets of Rage 4, was published in April 2020 and has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.
The cinematic adaptation will be produced by dj2 Entertainment, the creators of Sonic, and Escape Artists (the creators of the Equalizer series).
Following the cinema financial success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, dj2 Entertainment will release Streets of Rage. Earlier this year, dj2 struck an overall contract with Amazon and plans to adapt The Game Awards winner It Takes Two for television and cinema.
