Top 25 Best Action Romance Anime Of All Time –

What is an action romance anime? Action Romance Anime are a subgenre of Science Fiction and Fantasy that include intense romantic storylines making them perfect for those looking to escape reality. This list includes some of the best in the genre, with many focusing on two characters’ journey to find love.

The “best romance action anime 2020” is a list of the top 25 best action romance anime of all time. The list includes popular titles such as Naruto and Bleach.

Top 25 Best Action Romance Anime Of All Time –

Peanut butter and jam, love and marriage, and a horse and carriage are among the few things in life that go together so beautifully.

Romance and anime both fall within this category.

The mix of action and romance is as ancient as time itself. Why? Because it is simple and effective.

In fact, I’m certain I’ll face no repercussions if I state that action romance anime is one of the finest genres in anime.

To demonstrate this idea, here are some suggestions for action romance-themed anime — a massive list of films that anime enthusiasts must see!

BTOOOM! 25.

BTOOOM! anime screenshot

This is one of the finest high-stakes survival anime ever made, and it starts off our list with a bang.

BTOOOM! is about a hardcore gamer/shut-in called Ryota Sakamoto who was unexpectedly taken to an island where death is as simple as failing an arithmetic exam.

He meets Himiko, a high school gamer who happens to be his in-game fiancée.

Working together, these two confront the island’s threats head-on, all while developing a love bond.

They both find and admit their affections for one other towards the conclusion of the series (which arrived a bit sooner than I would have wanted).

And, to be honest, the program benefited greatly from the growth of their relationship since it provided viewers with a healthy respite from the series’ brutality.

Tokyo Ravens (#24)

Tokyo Ravens anime screenshot

In practically every romantic anime, childhood buddies tend to receive the short end of the stick.

This one, however, is not one of them!

Tokyo Ravens is a series that follows our protagonist, Harutora Tsuchimikado, as he discovers the mysterious realm of onmyouji and living spirits.

After years of living as a regular person, Harutora is visited by a boyhood buddy (Natsume), who reminds him of a promise they made as children.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Absolute Duo (number 23)

Absolute Duo anime screenshot

Absolute Duo should be a very excellent watch for romance anime fans based on the show’s title alone.

Our primary character, Tooru Kokonoe, is a young guy who enrolled in Kouryou Academy High School in order to earn more strength. Why?

So that he may seek vengeance on the murderer of his sister.

He encounters a range of amorous interests (it’s a harem) at the school. The most noteworthy is Julie Sigtuna, who is his “Duo” and, ironically, has similar objectives to him.

They work together to overcome everything the world throws at them.

Romeo and Juliet (Romeo and Juliet) (Romeo and Juliet) (R

Romeo x Juliet anime screenshot

When it comes to apparent romantic titles, this program takes the cake.

After all, it’s reasonable to claim that no other fictional couple is more well-known than these Shakespearean figures.

However, the story of Romeo Candorebanto Montague and Juliet Fiammata Asto Capulet in this anime is quite different from the personalities they are based on.

Juliet wasn’t a former princess who became a masked vigilante to defend the people… In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo was not the son of a tyrant ruler.

What makes this program so enjoyable to watch is that the romantic part is not at all overshadowed by the action.

If anything, I’d think it only adds to the experience.

21. Go On A Live Date

Date A Live anime screenshot

What distinguishes an excellent action/romance anime from the rest?

Actually, there are a couple things.

Check whether the series is based on a romantic Visual Novel video game or if it generated games after the anime was launched.

Both of these things occurred in Date A Live, demonstrating how effective this IP has been in producing action/romance tales in general.

While I believe the games are superior, I believe the anime stands on its own in terms of plot.

The anime also does a better job of balancing romance and action than many of the other titles on this list.

That alone is reason enough to suggest this series!

20. Diary of the Future

Future Diary anime screenshot

Here’s a game that’s practically rife with physical and mental challenges.

The journey of our two main heroes, Yuno Gasai and Yukiteru Amano, is the core of Future Diary’s plot.

While there are many good romantic sequences in this series, be aware that there are also violent situations, betrayals, and a slightly unhealthy relationship between Yuno and Yuki.

Yuno, after all, is a raving yandere who will go to any length to be with Yuki… So, yes.

Escaflowne’s Visions (19.)

Visions of Escaflowne anime screenshot

If you like the isekai genre, you’ll want to watch this anime right now!

Visions of Escaflowne is one of the finest action/romance anime from before the 2000s, set in a fantastical world filled of monsters, swords, magic, and mechanical suits.

It chronicles the narrative of Hitomi Kanzaki, a once-ordinary high school student with a passing interest in the paranormal.

Her voyage brings her to another planet called “Gaea” when she meets a guy named Van Fanel, a prince of the Kingdom of Fanelia. This is the location of Van Fanel’s dominion.

With this one, expect a lot of high-octane confrontations between mechanical combat suits… This, in my opinion, fits nicely with the anime’s focus on youthful love.

18. Zero’s Familiarity

The Familiar of Zero anime screenshot

On the subject of youthful love, how about an earlier isekai action romance series that is still entertaining today?

Despite having seen a plethora of episodes with a similar concept, The Familiar of Zero remains one of my favorite romantic series.

In a nutshell, it depicts an improbable master-servant relationship between a witch called Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière and an average Japanese adolescent named Saito Hiraga.

While they may not have liked one other at first, they gradually develop affections for each other.

And I’m happy to report that, unlike most action romance anime, we have more than 12 episodes to observe their love develop!

Blood+17.

Blood+ anime screenshot

In today’s popular culture, supernatural romances may be a tad overdone.

However, there are a few standout titles that go above the trope’s “cliché-ness.”

Blood+ is more than simply a regular vampire-vampire romance.

It takes a much more mature and nuanced approach to interspecies interactions. It chronicles the story of Saya Otonashi, a young anemic lady who is also suffering from partial amnesia.

She encounters Hagi, a mystery guy who is really much closer to her than she first imagined, after being assaulted by a vampire.

Is this, on the whole, a greater love tale than Twilight?

Of course it does, you moron!

Angel Beats is number sixteen.

Angel Beats! anime screenshot

Angel Beats! is without a doubt one of the most heartbreaking anime ever produced.

Despite having action and romantic components like every other show on this list, this one has a certain appeal that I can’t quite put my finger on.

There are some wholesome and amusing moments sprinkled throughout the furious action sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat, as well as nice romance parts here and there.

Of course, what makes this anime stand out is its extensive usage of emotional situations that pull at your heartstrings, especially those between Kanade Tachibana and Yuzuru Otonashi, the two main characters.

Eureka Seven is number fifteen.

Eureka Seven anime screenshot

Eureka Seven is one of the most well-known mecha games.

While some anime fans say it’s a “carbon copy” of its predecessor (The Gundam Series), I strongly disagree (along with many others).

Eureka Seven’s appeal stems mostly from its stronger focus on the romantic side of things, as opposed to the action seen in other Gundam games.

Of course, this isn’t to say that the show’s action isn’t entertaining.

If anything, I believe Renton and Eureka’s heartwarming friendship (sort of an understatement) adds to the suspense of the high-stakes action sequences!

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) (Tengen Topp

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime screenshot

When it comes to mecha-focused anime with action and romantic aspects… What would we do if we didn’t mention Gurren Lagann?

The program has a cast of extremely recognizable characters in addition to a superb tale from beginning to conclusion.

Because Gurenn Lagann is a coming-of-age narrative, we watch Simon and Nia’s development as characters throughout the course of the series.

With the additional bonus of witnessing them become closer to one other in each episode!

You just cannot ask for more from this series as a lover of slow-burn anime romances.

It cranks up everything — including fierce action sequences — to ludicrous levels.

13. Inuyasha (Japanese: Inuyasha

Inuyasha anime screenshot

What, do you believe we’re done with traditional isekais?

We aren’t there yet!

We’ve got one of the best anime combos out there, with isekai, romance, action, and supernatural elements. Perhaps even better than any other anime! (Don’t yell at me)

There are so many aspects about Inuyasha that I like.

It addresses a number of cliches that were well ahead of their time (not only isekai), and it does so brilliantly that the series is still enjoyable to watch.

Please watch Inuyasha and Kagome’s love story— *ahem* I mean adventure as soon as you can if you want to know why I adore this program so much!

Sailor Moon (#12)

Sailor Moon anime screenshot

Magical girls, oh my.

It’s pretty much general knowledge in the anime community that most of them represent cuteness, friendliness, and love.

While the golden period of magical girls may have passed us by, I would definitely suggest Sailor Moon to anybody who is willing to view older titles.

Even while Usagi Tsukino’s narrative may have been a source of inspiration for a number of other similar anime, it is still rather distinct and original.

You can’t knock the originals, can you?

Darling in the Franxx, No. 11

Darling in the Franxx anime screenshot

For some reason, mecha titles remain a constant presence on this list.

What is it about mecha and romance that they go along so well?

Darling in the Franxx is a good illustration of this, and it’s still one of the best-selling romance novels of all time.

The blood-curdling and high-octane mecha combat sequences, on the other hand, are nothing to laugh at!

It’s no surprise that some anime fans regard Naotaka Hayashi and Hiroshi Seko’s work to be a true masterpiece, given how wonderfully animated it is and how captivating the tale is.

The Gundam Series is number ten (Mobile Suit Gundam 00)

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 anime screenshot

This is, without a doubt, the most well-known mecha series of all time.

Contrary to popular belief, the Gundam series is much more than a collection of mecha-focused dramas with a basic and uninteresting romantic storyline.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00, in particular, provides a little more mature view on romance, politics, and war — one that well beyond the quality of previous anime.

Also, I think the relationship between the characters of this episode (Setsuna Seiei and Marina Ismail) is the most well-developed in the Gundam series.

Crown of Guilty

Guilty Crown anime screenshot

a word to the wise – There aren’t many anime that are as sad as this one.

Guilty Crown may seem to be a standard “weak-to-strong” anime, but there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Guilty Crown is a post-apocalyptic novel that gives us a dark but optimistic view of the world through the eyes of Shuu Ouma, our timid guy-turned-badass protagonist.

While the show’s general tone is a little grim, the romance and action components aren’t diminished in the least.

Personally, I believe it merely adds to the story’s intrigue!

Maoyu, the Archenemy and the Hero

Maoyu: Archenemy and Hero anime screenshot

While Maoyu is a newcomer, it is obvious that it boasts one of the finest opening ideas of any program on our list.

While the enemies-to-lovers theme isn’t new, Maoyu executes it in a unique and engaging manner.

Simply described, the plot centres on an odd (romantic) relationship between a Demon Lord and a Hero who are both attempting to improve their planet.

At a time, one potato at a time.

Yona of the Dawn is number seven.

Yona of the Dawn anime screenshot

Coming-of-age anime isn’t that unlike from other genres that work nicely with action/romance (Fun Fact: Almost all Shonen are coming-of-age anime).

Yona of the Dawn is an excellent example of a coming-of-age story that incorporates both romance and adventure.

It tells the story of Yona, a former princess whose father (the king) is betrayed and assassinated by her childhood infatuation (ouch).

From there, we get to follow her on her quest to retrieve what is properly hers, all while becoming closer to someone who is really deserving of her love.

Samurai X (Samurai X) (Samurai

Samurai X anime screenshot

Samurai X may be the granddaddy of all badass samurai anime.

It should come as no surprise to find the program mentioned here if you’re acquainted with it.

It’s a timeless masterpiece that merits every accolade it’s received.

Sure, the animation and graphic style are a touch out of date when compared to what we have currently. But the narrative in and of itself is worth anyone’s attention!

Samurai X is the tale of a pacifist samurai named Kenshin Himura, who was formerly feared and incredibly deadly.

We as viewers (including Kamiya Kaoru) are able to glimpse our MC’s kinder and far more loving side as a result of a major transformation.

5. Fate/Stay Night (Fate/Stay Night) Series

Fate/Stay Night anime screenshot

The Fate series has a far deeper history as an IP than most light novel-to-anime adaptations.

Given its success, it has even expanded into games, comics, and audiobooks!

But we’re here for Fate/Stay Night, which is one of the strongest titles in the Fate anime series, in my opinion.

It also contains Saber and Emiya Shirou, who are two of my fave ships. Which makes me happy every time I see it.

I’m not sure why, but these two as a relationship never seem to let me down, no matter what timeline or other universe the show is set in!

4. Is Trying to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Wrong?

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? anime screenshot

While I’m not a huge fan of harem and ecchi anime these days (most of the new ones are just plain dull), I do make a few exceptions since I’m a very reasonable person!

If a harem series satisfies my criteria, I pay close attention to it because it has overcome my prejudice.

“Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” is one of the rare harem anime series that kept my attention.

And, by my own admission, this program took advantage of it.

The major reason is because, unlike other modern harem series, Dungeon features a large cast of interesting characters, each with their own motive.

The tale revolves on three characters: a novice adventurer (Bell Cranel), a goddess (Hestia), and a valiant veteran adventurer (Ais Wallenstein), who form one of anime’s most amusing love triangles.

It also doesn’t hurt that there’s a lot of fan support.

3. The Exorcists of Twin Stars

Twin Star Exorcist anime screenshot

Now let’s go on to Twin Star Exorcist, a show that needs a lot more attention.

This is definitely one of the most underappreciated anime series of the recent decade.

In retrospect, Twin Star Exorcist had all the makings of a major shonen anime.

Such as:

Is there a destined, slow-burn romance between the two major characters? Check!

A fantastical planet populated by supernatural beings? Check!

Fighting scenes and sequences that are badass? Please double-check!

Most importantly, Benio and Rokuro both gave it their best in this show, which says a lot about their chemistry as a pair.

2. Beyond the Limits

Beyond the Boundary anime screenshot

I’ve seen quite a few romantic anime series.

But every time I see it, Beyond the Boundary sticks out.

This isn’t simply because I’m a sucker for bespectacled female protagonists – the show is that fantastic!

It’s a pleasant, exhilarating, and sometimes crazy show that constantly develops on Mirai Kuriyama and Akihito Kanbara’s strange friendship – both of whom aren’t your ordinary high school kids.

And by “peculiar bond,” I mean that the first time they meet, one of them attempts to murder the other.

You may believe that’s a bad method to create a first impression.

However, the way these two’s connection evolves in the end tells us differently.

1. Online Sword Art

Sword Art Online anime screenshot

And for the top slot, we have none other than Sword Art Online, the most renowned isekai in anime history.

First and first, I’d want to state that I am not a huge fan of SAO in general. I don’t mind it per se, but the recent seasons aren’t to my taste.

However, the first season of the program is one of my favorites.

Season 1 has a number of episodes that have left an indelible mark on me as a spectator. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

If I had to choose one thing that appeals to me the most, it would be Asuna and Kirito’s relationship, since it is without a doubt one of the most well-portrayed anime romances out there.

There’s a reason why SAO blew up all those years ago.

It’s because, in comparison to other comparable games, this series tackles action and romantic components (among other things) in a far more engaging manner.

If you haven’t seen it yet, at the very least watch the first season.

The “action romance anime with good ending” is a genre that has been popular for a long time. The top 25 best action romance anime of all time are listed below.
