Leaked AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX Benchmarks Show 33% Improvement over Ryzen 9 5900HX

AMD’s Ryzen 9 series has been leaked, showcasing a 33% improvement over the Ryzen 9 5900HX. What does this mean for gamers? There could be fewer bottlenecks in gaming applications with increased performance on current generation hardware and as we are seeing more software optimization that benefits AMD processors specifically will come to light.

AMD’s Ryzen 6000 series CPUs were formally revealed at CES 2022, and now a leaked benchmark for the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX has surfaced online. The results were tweeted by @BenchLeaks for a Lenovo 82RG laptop. The good news is that the 8-core/16-thread flagship APU outperforms its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 5900HX, by 33% in multi-core testing. In the single-core exam, the precise results were 1593 points, and in the multi-core test, they were 10151 points. The performance of single-core processors has improved by 12%.

The bad news is that those looking for the quickest processor need wait for Intel’s newest offering, the Core i9-12900H Alder Lake-P CPU, which has 14 cores and 20 threads. This processor is said to be between 7% and 21% faster in single-core performance, and up to 42% faster in multi-core performance. However, for these early comparisons, that is not the end of the story.

Speed vs. Power

If speed is the only consideration, the Intel processor clearly wins, as would be expected given the higher core counts, but in the mobile market, power consumption is also a consideration. An RDNA 2 Radeon 680M GPU with 12 Compute Units is included in the Rembrandt APU, which is expected to run at around 2 GHz. It has a rated TDP of 45 W. Meanwhile, the Core i9-highest 12900H’s turbo boost consumes 115 W. The Ryzen 9 6900HX was rumored to have a boost speed of up to 4.90 GHz, and this benchmark shows it approaching that speed, but the TDP at that speed is unknown.

As embargoes for both lift and manufacturers announce their next waves of laptops, more precise performance numbers for both chips should be available shortly. Intel processor results are due this week. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPUs are likely to be coupled with the 6000 series CPUs when they are released on February 1.
