Horizon Forbidden West’s fighting may be a lot of fun—until one of the game’s gigantic robots knocks Aloy off her feet.

As a video posted on the official Horizon subreddit earlier this month vividly shown, being struck by an AOE or other strong assault in the game may occasionally result in instant death. This is due to the fact that Aloy not only recovers slower than a Tallneck, but she also lacks invincibility frames during her recovery animation, which would prevent her from being locked down by a new set of strikes.

Fortunately, Guerrilla Games has now published a new patch for Horizon Forbidden West that should fix the issue. While the NOTES ON THE PATCH only mentioned “several balancing changes to weapons and enemies,” a developer clarified that the fix included a change that made Aloy “invulnerable during knockdowns from the moment she hits the ground until she gets up,” preventing players from “receiving unfair damage while they can’t do anything to avoid it.”

  • Ground Strike from Heavy Melee no longer stuns Aloy instantaneously.
  • By concentrating fire on the Rebel Champion’s legs, they can no longer be stun-locked.
  • Strikethrough arrows now do less damage.
  • Fixed flaws with the Servitor that made fighting it unintentionally difficult.
  • Hitting a human adversary with a melee strike before triggering a Critical Strike did not do any damage and caused the enemy to break out of the animation.
  • From the time Aloy hits the ground until she gets up, make her invulnerable to knockdowns.
  • This is to prevent players from taking unfair harm when they have no way of avoiding it.
  • While charging a strong melee strike, the player can no longer evade indefinitely.
  • A bug where certain swimming robots may become idle if they were stunned by a player assault has been fixed.

More Horizon Forbidden West updates are on the way, as Guerrilla Games continues to investigate several concerns, including graphics difficulties in the game’s Performance mode. Players who wish to make greater use of Legendary weaponry may be interested in a patch that increases Volatile Sludge.

We’re presently investigating a number of concerns that have been brought to our attention by members of the community. Please note that certain problems are not yet addressed in this patch, but our teams are working to resolve them as soon as possible.

  • The team is still looking into and tweaking the graphics problems that have been identified, such as shimmering, sharpness, and screen saturation.
  • After fast traveling to any campfire while gliding within a tornado, several players have experienced many challenges with different sorts of navigation.
  • After completing the Black Box Collectibles action, some players have complained that they are unable to get their prize.


Main Missions

  • Silent Strike on a mission-specific Bristleback would send the player to Chainscrape, which was fixed in the main quest ‘To The Brink.’
  • Varl and Zo would occasionally loiter outside of Plainsong and hinder advancement in the main quest ‘The Dying Lands.’ This has been fixed.
  • After resuming from a particular save, Aloy’s friends will not lead the way in the main quest ‘The Dying Lands.’
  • Fixed an issue in the main quest ‘The Broken Sky’ where reloading a specific save might occasionally mistakenly deactivate fast travel.
  • Loading a save generated on the previous patch caused Aloy to get trapped in the Base in the main quest ‘Cradle of Echoes.’
  • Fixed a problem where Aloy’s breathing sounds were playing during a cinematic scene in the main quest ‘Thebes.’
  • In the main quest ‘All That Remains,’ a bug was fixed that caused Aloy to spawn in the Base and be unable to leave if you restarted from a specific save.

Quests off the beaten path

  • Ulvund didn’t receive the message in the side quest ‘The Bristlebacks,’ and remained in Chainscrape after the objective was done.
  • When reloading from a particular save in the side mission ‘What Was Lost,’ Kotallo might sometimes become unresponsive.
  • Fixed a bug in the side quest ‘Blood For Blood,’ where Kavvoh and Arokkeh couldn’t be engaged with in certain situations, preventing advancement.
  • Fast traveling during the Slitherfang battle caused the machine to not revive, preventing advancement in the side quest ‘Forbidden Legacy.’
  • After harming the Widemaws from a long distance, the quest objective “Go to the Drumroot” will not fulfill in the side quest “The Roots that Bind.”
  • Fixed an issue where killing foes before obtaining the goal to do so might prevent advancement in the errand quest ‘Call And Response.’

Activities Around the World

  • In Gauntlet Run, an issue was fixed where clearing the finish line in last place may result in a victory under certain conditions.
  • Several problems with particular Firegleam and Metal Flower symbols not appearing on the map have been resolved.
  • Fixed a bug where Firegleam icons were not properly removed from the map when the associated action was performed.
  • When loading a save created while playing Machine Strike, an issue where rapid travel was blocked in certain scenarios was fixed.


  • The Machine Strike UI would temporarily flicker at the conclusion of a game. This has been fixed.


  • After being submerged in water, Aloy would no longer seem wet.
  • Multiple graphics IMPROVEMENTS AND FIXES in cinematics.
  • Several aesthetic enhancements in the shadows and clouds.
  • When launching Photo Mode during a swan dive, the controls would get locked.

Stability and performance

  • Several crashes have been fixed.
  • In cinematics, there have been several performance and streaming enhancements.
  • Several unintentional loading screens and black screens have been removed.
  • Multiple issues of streaming and visual popping have been resolved.


  • The mobility and animations of NPCs in towns have been improved.
  • When employing motion aiming and scanning machines, it’s now easy to identify specific components.
  • When you pick up potions or items that no longer fit on your toolbelt, they are now placed in your stockpile.
  • Weapons and adversaries have been rebalanced in many ways.
  • Several cases where Aloy might get caught in geometry have been fixed.
  • During the last major mission, ‘Singularity,’ the ‘All Machine Types Scanned’ award might be easily overlooked.
  • Fix for a bug in the mount function that caused the flying mount to spawn in inconvenient places and, in some situations, be inaccessible.
  • Several datapoints that were previously locked when the player left a space are now immediately unlocked when the player exits that space.
  • Multiple issues of individual music tracks being stuck and repeating have been resolved.
